mycoplasmas are spherical to filamentous cells whit no cell walls .there is an atachment organelle at the tip of filamentous M pneumoniae,M genitalium and several other pathogenic mycoplasmas .fried -egg-shaped colonies are seen on agar .the mycoplasmas presumably evolved by degenerative eveloutation from gram positive bacteria and are phylogeneticaly most closely to some clostidia .mycoplasmas are the smallest self-replicating organisms whit the smallest genoms a total of 500 to 1000 gene.they are low in guanin and cytosine.
mycoplasmas are nutritionally very exacting .many require cholestrol .unique property .
